So you're interested in getting started with web hosting, web design,
and learning more about getting a website on the internet. Diminar
Solutions LLC makes this an easy process. Let's discuss briefly on
what web hosting is, okay?
Exactly what is web hosting and why do you need it? Think of web
hosting as a rental, whether a rent house or a car. There are
different types of web hosting available. There is shared, dedicated,
and co-location web hosting. So how is this like a rental? Web hosting
means that you are borrowing or paying for a server (a server is a
special computer designed to stay cool and runs programs required for
web sites, e-mail, and other things to run.) to use a portion or all
of its resources (resources being RAM, CPU, Hard Disk Space etc.) So
basically that means you are paying a small fee, monthly or yearly,
to use our servers, connection, network, programs, and other equipment.
This means you don't have to spend money for the equipment and learn
how to manage and operate the equipment. We do it for you. Many people
think that web hosting will use their internet connection. This is not
true. In fact, a customer doesn't need internet at all to have web
hosting. Although it is helpful so you can login and manage different
services, having an internet connection is optional. What many
customers fail to realize is that many of them only have dial-up or a
very simple broadband line and that would be inadequate to use for a
connection for web hosting. We have a special business class
connections for our network to provide customers with better speeds.
Let's talk about the types of web hosting.
Shared Web Hosting - This type of web hosting is the most common and
most affordable. It is also sometimes called, virtual hosting.
Customers share a server with other customers. This sharing is for
resources only. Each customer gets a slice or piece of the server that
is completely theirs and cannot be accessed by any other customers.
Customers get easy to use tools to manage their account and see some
of the server statistics. A representative can tell you how much our
shared hosting plans are. These plans aren't a different type of web
hosting, different plans come with different features such as disk
space.
Dedicated Web Hosting - Dedicated Hosting is more expensive but
many users choose it because it is not shared amongst other customers.
This server is dedicated to them. The customer is "renting" a whole
server. The customer will never own the server but it will be “theirs”
for as long as they pay for it. Customers can usually choose from
different computers we use for servers. There is usually a yearly
contract and a setup fee. A representative can give you more details
about what you get and the current prices of this type of hosting.
Co - Location Hosting - Co - Location hosting is similar to
dedicated hosting but we do not provide a server. We just provide a
connection, UPS, and other equipment. The customer will send us a
server or computer they wish to use as a server. We will connect it to
our network and configure it only to meet our company’s connection
credentials. This includes IP Address and pointing it to one of our
gateways. We will connect it to a UPS if requested and perform weekly
reboots if needed. We will do very simple and minor things but will
charge for installing programs, installing an OS, configuring the web
server, etc. We expect this server to be web server ready when we get
it or be ready to do whatever it is meant for when we get it. We'll
plug it in, turn it on, setup simple network configuration, and that’s
all.

Now that we’ve gone over the different types of web hosting, you
should have a better understanding of how web hosting works. Let’s
talk about what it is used for. Well, depending on the type of hosting
you have will determine what you can do. If you have dedicated or
co – location hosting you can do anything you wish and setup your
server anyway you see fit. However, with shared hosting, you can only
choose from the features offered. We’ll discuss shared hosting more
because it is the most popular. So what will this server be used for?
It can be used to share photos, start a family website, start a
personal or business website and setup popular scripts. You can use
your server space for storage (maybe like a backup) or do what most
people do, start a website. Websites do not come with web hosting.
You’ll have to design it or get someone (we design websites) to design
it for you. Remember when I said that servers have to have special
programs that allow websites to function? Well, this main program is
called APACHE Web Server. When designing a website, the
programmer must use a “language” it will understand. The most basic of
these languages is called HTML. We also have other plug-ins installed
so it can understand other languages like, PHP and PERL. Your website
designer should have a basic understanding of these three languages.
Things you might need for a website would be an idea of what you would
like it to look like, colors you would like to use, some photos or
images, maybe a logo, and some content. We make it easy for you to
access your server space to get these files back or to put new ones
live on the internet. If you get us to design your website, we will
put all these things together in your space for you.
Next thing you’ll need, and it’s pretty important, is a domain name. A
domain name is like a sign or pointer that links to a web hosting
companies network. By default, the internet uses numbers to connect to
servers and websites. These numbers are called IP Addresses. These IP
Addresses look like this: 192.168.2.3 and start at 0.0.0.0 and end at
255.255.255.255. One of the network entries for Diminar Solutions is
209.209.218.245. If you type this into an address bar, you’ll get our
website. That’s pretty hard to remember, huh? That’s why domain names
are important. Our domain name: www.diminar.com points to the IP
address above making it easier to remember. Our equipment and programs
know exactly how to use this information and send it to the account it
is supposed to be. We will know what domain name(s) you have and point
them to your new web space. We do the entire configuration. Domain
names are pretty cheap. You can get them from between $7 - $20 a year.
You get one free when you order one of our shared hosting plans. All
you have to do is tell us what domain name you want.
